EAA versus BFSG

The European Accessibility Act (EAA, directive 2019/882) is the EU norm; the BFSG is its implementation in German law. Both apply from 28 June 2025.

The difference

The EAA sets the framework, each EU country implements it in national law. Some countries are stricter than the minimum standard. For operating a German website, the BFSG is decisive.

For international offerings

Anyone offering services in several EU countries must take the respective national implementation into account. Technically, the common denominator is the standard EN 301 549 / WCAG 2.2 AA.

How a11yglass helps

The free scan checks the delivered HTML and CSS for automatically recognisable WCAG breaches, and names per finding the success criterion and a concrete step. It finds roughly 20–35% of issues and does not replace a full assessment.
